Homebrew high voltage projects |
Oliver has a lot of fun projects on this site - "Homebrew hardware, including a homemade TIG welder, focus fusion, and other HV/High risk pursuits" - Link.
TIG (Tungsten inert gas) is also known as G.T.A.W (gas tunsten arc welding) or sometimes helearc which refers to the use of helium in the origanal desigs, and confusingly a patanted design to spiral air in plasma cutting torches (a compleatly different proces)
TIG welding is used when a very accrate and neat weld is required. it also has other advantages, for example Copper, titanium and aluminium can be welded. - Link. |

HOW TO: Create RFID Access for Your Front Door |
"There are many uses for RFID such as supply chain management, but access control is one of the most relevant applications for personal use. Many people use RFID access cards to get into buildings, use elevators, or even open the doors to those special penthouse type hotel suites. Setting up your own front door (or any door for that matter) with an RFID enabled access mechanism is pretty easy." Link.

The Automated Bar |
The idea of the automated bar originally came from a website I stumbled across about a year ago. In October of 2003 Steven Avery, Dustin Cooper and Brad Greer of Harvey Mudd College build what they dubbed the "Bar Monkey." It consisted of 16 reservoirs and pumps and were controlled by a computer and small number pad. The user entered a drink and it would pump out through a series of tubes. The idea was picked up by others and a website was launched at barmonkey.net for people to share ideas about their own bar monkey projects. |
