Megazone over at TiVo Lovers is reporting that someone's cracked the DRM on TiVoToGo, letting you export recorded programs from a TiVo for viewing on any device.
There's a command line program running in C that strips DRM, and a Wiki with a history of the project so far and updates on the development.
Throughout history, TiVo has been happy to turn a blind eye towards the
TiVo hacking community as users figured out ways to add larger hard
drives and implement advanced networking capabilities. But as TiVo
continues cozying up to the networks, promising ways to get viewers to watch commercials, and provide commercial rating data,
they can't be too thrilled about hackers developing a tool that would
essentially let you post TiVo recordings on the internet.
On
the other hand, TiVoToGo files can currently only be played on Windows
or supported devices, so it was kind of like TiVo was wearing a big
"hack me" sign on their back, targeted at Linux and Mac users.
